My Unhurried Life

Finding the Truth in slowing down and simple living.

Hi there ~

I’m Olivia.

Just a few years ago, I was working 45+ hours a week – emotionally stretched, stressed out of my mind, sleeping little, maxing out at the gym, and eating quick, convenient meals (hello, frozen pizza). When I was let go from that job, my whole life turned upside-down, and I didn’t know what to do with myself.

As a result, I searched for my new “thing.” I dabbled with sustainability, homesteading, minimalism, and “slow” living. Everything felt so scrambled, like I was searching for answers in the activities; that one of these would make my life right and give me purpose. The more I researched, tuned into myself (or rather, my soul), and understood about the world around us, I grabbed a glimpse of what I was missing: Slowing down. Living the unhurried life.

Let’s define some terms…

What is sustainability?

Living with the intention of preserving Earth; making the most of your belongings, avoiding waste – the opposite of consumerism; think: recycling, reusing, conserving energy, thrifting, living “green”

What is homesteading?

Living off your own land and being sustained by your own efforts; gardening, farming, raising livestock, composting, fermenting, canning.

What is minimalism?

Eliminating clutter and non-essential items from your life. Typically looks like a capsule wardrobe, paperless documents, and no excess of dishes, linens, or decor.

What is simple living?

Living without a demanding schedule and taking each moment as it is. Enjoying the small things in life. Recognizes that stuff is just stuff, and doesn’t need the trendy products. Materializes as slow mornings, connecting with community and outside, home-cooked meals.

Let me be clear: these are still ways of living that I follow and aim for, but I’ve found something much more life-giving.

What is an unhurried life?

Focusing only on the core things that truly matter in life. Investing in your health, being an un-anxious presence, pursuing a fulfilling and abundant life. Learning to not do it all, but finding what is worthwhile. Can be: slower days, resting on the weekend, turning off electronics, only having what you need.
