My Unhurried Life

Finding the Truth in slowing down and simple living.

Hi there ~

I’m Olivia.

Just a few years ago, I was working 45+ hours a week, revolving around my job; emotionally stretched, sleeping little, maxing out at the gym, and primarily eating quick & convenient meals (hello, frozen pizza). After no longer working that job, my whole life turned upside-down, and I didn’t know what to do with myself.

I came to realize I’d been living with my head down, simply following down the path I thought best. I was more concerned with what I was doing than how I was doing.

But little did I know how much more my Creator was concerned with my heart than how I built my life.

I went from late nights and early rushed mornings, snacks for lunch, and waiting for the weekend to then soaking up morning hours, nourishing the body my God gave me, and not holding out for “one day.” And I still have so much to learn.

The more I researched, tuned into my soul, and understood about the world around us, I grabbed a glimpse of what I was missing: Slowing down. Living the unhurried life.

"...Do not worry about your life. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?"
Matthew 6:25

Let’s define some terms…

What is sustainability?

Living with the intention of preserving Earth; making the most of your belongings, avoiding waste – the opposite of consumerism; think: recycling, reusing, conserving energy, thrifting, living “green”

What is homesteading?

Living off your own land and being sustained by your own efforts; gardening, farming, raising livestock, composting, fermenting, canning.

What is minimalism?

Eliminating clutter and non-essential items from your life. Typically looks like a capsule wardrobe, paperless documents, and no excess of dishes, linens, or decor.

What is simple living?

Living without a demanding schedule and taking each moment as it is. Enjoying the small things in life. Recognizes that stuff is just stuff, and doesn’t need the trendy products. Materializes as slow mornings, connecting with community and outside, home-cooked meals.

Let me be clear: these are still ways of living that I follow and aim for, but I’ve found something much more life-giving.

What is an unhurried life?

Focusing only on the core things that truly matter in life. Investing in your health, being an un-anxious presence, pursuing a fulfilling and abundant life. Learning to not do it all, but finding what is worthwhile. Can be: slower days, resting on the weekend, turning off electronics, only having what you need.

Have you ever heard of the book, The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry?

This book was a game-changer for me. I eventually picked it up after experiencing the pressure to keep up with modern-day lifestyles, and the realization of not wanting to “hustle.” Worn out, I decided to stop striving like the rest of the world, since it’s something we were never meant to do. In this book, you’ll learn how to find release from the hurry of our culture and pursue contentment.

Questions You Might Be Wondering…

What got you into blogging?

Growing up, I always had an inkling for writing and documenting. I’ve journaled ever since I was 5 years old (I’m not kidding), which eventually turned into vlogging when I got my own camera. Vlogging didn’t seem to stick as much, but I’ve kept writing all these years. I finally decided to make use of it.

Where are you from?

I was born and raised in Mississippi until moving to North Carolina for college. You can still find me here in NC.

Do you have an education related to this?

Nope. I majored in Food & Beverage Entrepreneurship which is essentially a Business degree with a focus in culinary. I did take a Nutrition class at one point- if that counts. I’m certainly not an expert, just merely driven to share Truth.
