“We can never heal ourselves back to perfection, or perfect health.“
– my previous post
This is a topic I just elaborated on, so it seems redundant to keep writing about it. But it’s an idea I keep finding myself in and surrounded by.
You can never eat the right diet or keep up the perfect workout routine to keep off the disease. Honestly, I believe some of us are just naturally dealt better health than others (thanks to genetics?) and won’t see much illness.
No matter how hard you try though, we can’t ignore that we live in a broken world.
It’s Not in Vain
Just because you can’t eat enough vegetables to keep off disease doesn’t mean you should forget it all and just go about life without a care. We can still form a foundation for a healthy life and practice good routines early on. Protecting your body with exercise, nutritious food, and sufficient vitamins will build a strong base. It will increase your energy, power your systems, and protect your fighting cells.
Upon recent events, I fell out of my health practices. I started falling behind on my supplements. I was reaching for the easier, tastier foods and prioritizing my nutrition less. My exercise also diminished. It wasn’t long before I saw the shift in my body and most evidently, my energy.
Sleeping more, focusing less… Falling behind on my habits got me in a bit of a rut. It’s felt harder to get out of bed. It’s been tricky to stay present.
My point here is to say that these practices do matter, and they build that sturdier foundation for everyday life. The start is the hardest part and will take a lot of dedication. Soon, though, you will experience more energy, more mental clarity, and less anxiety.
It’s All for Naught
Don’t starve yourself to death. Don’t discipline yourself silly. We’ve been gifted with beautiful blessings around us that we are able to enjoy, but these are not our salvation.
Chocolate? It’s a naturally-occurring treat that we are allowed to indulge but it will not solve our problems. Seems ridiculous to put it that way, but we can self-medicate with food. (I have found myself in that boat many times.)
Eat your greens. Take your supplements. Monitor your sugar. But don’t stress yourself over the regimen.
Our society is overridden with fad diets, a plethora of supplements, and weight loss programs. Fitness and health bombard us constantly. And sometimes, this can shift our thinking into how we aren’t hitting the mark in numerous areas.
Mouth tape, ice water facial, Gua sha, lemon & olive oil shots, a dozen pills, the morning routine of the gods.
When we find ourselves deep in the rabbit hole of wellness practices, we start to look a little crazy. Practice these things for the amazing benefits you are seeking, but don’t try to fit everything in because you can. If you struggle with a lot of puffiness in the morning, maybe try out the ice water facial. If your digestion is all out of whack, down the oil shot. But don’t find yourself reaching for every single trick you come across. You’ll burn yourself out.
Health is a stress-inducer, for sure.
Maybe you’re able to juggle all this and can handle the daily routine without sacrificing too much time and sanity. Power to you. Please don’t hear this as an attack. What I’m aiming to achieve here is making room for those that feel like they fail if they don’t accomplish these endless lists of self-development.
They will not save you. They will not change your life path.
Do what makes sense for you. You’ll be okay.
OG
